New Comics April 30, 2008
Ok, Countdown is finally over and for me I feel like I want my year
back. DC raised the price of the book and gave us less pay off. At least in 52 we got a punch line, even if it was a giant bug eating the multiverse. Well I think DC realized that the screwed up with Countdown and tried to make amends with Final Crisis. DC has been getting their but kick by Marvel in sales for the past and after reading DC Universe Zero they are not holding back and they are pulling out all the stops. This book gives us a preview of six story arcs that tie in with Final Crisis. I don’t want to give anything away, but the last page of the book gives me hope of a hero’s great return.
I would like to say I am enjoying Teen Titans Year One. It is a six issue mini series that is updating the origin of the original Teen Titans. Maybe I will always be an awkward teenager at heart but reading this book reminds me of when I was in high school with my buddies. The artwork is sort of anime and cartoonish but it fits the books. Besides Robin being depressed that Batman won’t let him go out and play the book is a quick, light hearted read.
Iron Fist where have you gone. Ed Brubaker is a great writer but he keeps writing these six and seven issue story arcs. Does he not remember we read comic books because we have a short
attention span (or at least I do)? The 7 Capital Cities of Heaven storyline took for ever. I liked the over-sized last issued of the story and I like the direction the book is heading in but we need a couple short story arcs so that new readers can hope on and start enjoying the good things that Iron Fist has to offers.
Just a friendly reminder that FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is this Saturday, come celebrate the comic book industry with us and try some new books for free.

your money on big huge comic book cross-overs. Marvel has already started with Secret Invasion and DC will follow up with Final Crisis. Marvel also has Avenger/Invaders and DC has Batman RIP. Joss Whedon might even finish Astonishing X-Men and Runaways by the end of summer, but don’t get your hopes up.
was like watching a very cheap Sci-Fi film. When Dona Troy says, “Who Monitors the Monitors,” I asked myself where all the original ideas have gone.

too follow-up Secret Invasion #1. Last week we had nothing, at least this week we get Captain Marvel #5 (of 5) but the final part of the Captain Marvel story will finish up in a one-shot, Secret Invasion: Who do you trust?
is a little busy since Herc made him eat a missile.
just like a regular person would. But it was about the redemption of the character that is important. In the end he sacrifices him self to save others.
An 8-issue Marvel event by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Yu. The shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrulls have infiltrated every super-powered organization on Earth. They could be your most trusted allies. Your closest friends. Your family.
in Amazing Spider-Man. I know for the past couple months I have been on my soap box talking about how bad Marvel and Mister Joey Quesada have botched up the franchise title. I guess when the bar has been set as low as it has, if you give me something good I think it is amazing. (Sorry about the pun) I have always been an art guy; I grew up in the Todd Mcfarlane era of Amazing Spider-Man. So I have been spoiled. In issue 556 Bachalo has a few great splash pages of Spider-Man versus “a Big Ass” monster. The story takes place in a blizzard and the layout of the book help out to visualize the white out of the blizzard. I also have to give credit to Tim Townsend who inked the book. Basically this story arc has nothing to do with “One more Day” or “Brand New Day.” It is Peter Parker doing what he does best, trying to make the best of the worst possible situation and never giving up. As the old comic book writers would say “Enuff Said!”
since the beginning and it has dealt with most of the issues of the Marvel Universe. When Nova comes home to Earth after the first Annihilation mini series and has to deal with Iron Man and Civil War, the interaction with Iron Man and registration act is still one of my favorite moments of the post Civil War Era. (The #1 moment is when Thor gives Iron Man the beat down.) After the first Annihilation all Nova wanted to do is come home and relax and he is not home for more than two seconds and Iron Man tells him he has 48 hours to register. Nova is like I just saved the universe and also saw several worlds destroyed and billions and billions of people die, do you really think I care what you (Iron Man) and the government want me to do. That was a great issue, but like I said the series has improved since then. I have seen the character grow and mature.
Spider-Man dumb? Tony Stark is not a Skrull and yes, Amazing is dumb. It would be too easy if Tony Stark was a Skrull, my bet is on Wolverine being a Skrull and that would be awesome. Plus this is how Marvel could explain that he is in every book. Nick Fury and his howling commandos are coming to the rescue and let’s see what chaos they bring with them.
Brain K. Vaughn does. I liked the first issue, he developed three strong characters but not much happened. Issue #2 will definitely be the conflict issue and #3 will be the Wolverine kicking butt issue.
