I would like to thank writer Zeb Wells and artist Chris Bachalo for giving the fans a long over do story
in Amazing Spider-Man. I know for the past couple months I have been on my soap box talking about how bad Marvel and Mister Joey Quesada have botched up the franchise title. I guess when the bar has been set as low as it has, if you give me something good I think it is amazing. (Sorry about the pun) I have always been an art guy; I grew up in the Todd Mcfarlane era of Amazing Spider-Man. So I have been spoiled. In issue 556 Bachalo has a few great splash pages of Spider-Man versus “a Big Ass” monster. The story takes place in a blizzard and the layout of the book help out to visualize the white out of the blizzard. I also have to give credit to Tim Townsend who inked the book. Basically this story arc has nothing to do with “One more Day” or “Brand New Day.” It is Peter Parker doing what he does best, trying to make the best of the worst possible situation and never giving up. As the old comic book writers would say “Enuff Said!”
What else should you be reading that you are not? Nova #12 is getting to the close of Annihilation: Conquest, which means the shit, is hitting the fan. The Nova series has been solid
since the beginning and it has dealt with most of the issues of the Marvel Universe. When Nova comes home to Earth after the first Annihilation mini series and has to deal with Iron Man and Civil War, the interaction with Iron Man and registration act is still one of my favorite moments of the post Civil War Era. (The #1 moment is when Thor gives Iron Man the beat down.) After the first Annihilation all Nova wanted to do is come home and relax and he is not home for more than two seconds and Iron Man tells him he has 48 hours to register. Nova is like I just saved the universe and also saw several worlds destroyed and billions and billions of people die, do you really think I care what you (Iron Man) and the government want me to do. That was a great issue, but like I said the series has improved since then. I have seen the character grow and mature.
The reason why I like Nova and this arc of Amazing is it is two characters not giving up. In real life more often than not lately we see people settling instead fighting to get to the next level. I especially hear it in kids, that something is too hard. I know they are just books but Spider-Man and Nova don’t have that choice of giving up. The Earth of the Universe is depending on them. Those two are going to die trying to save us. That is why I like the books because it has both characters at breaking points and it is what you do at that breaking that makes all the difference.
I think I got a little deep, I’m going to go read Sonic the Hedgehog……….
