RICK AND MORTY: HBO Should Pick Up Season 4

Rick and Morty fans around the world are losing their shit right now at the thought of the series not returning for a fourth season.

According to the co-creator of the show Dan Harmon, Adult Swim has yet to order a fourth season. The lack of dialogue between Harmon and Cartoon Network is perplexing as Season Three was “the number one comedy across all of television” in the key 18-24 and 18-34 demographics. On top of that, the season finale was the highest-rated show in Cartoon Network history. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, the critically praised animated series follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.

Cartoon Network, Harmon, and Roiland need to get their act together as Rick and Morty is a cultural phenomenon with an insane fanbase. Just look at the McDonald’s riots of 2017. If you wait too long, the cultural phenomenon will pass you by. Harmon could want more money, Cartoon Network could just be lazy, but an adult needs to step in and clean this mess up. Enter HBO, there is a TV streaming war going on right now, and HBO is losing ground. HBO’s cash-cow Game of Thrones is ending, Vinyl was a costly flop, Bill Simmons just stole HBO’s money, and season two destroyed True Detective. Also, anyone who thinks Westworld will be as popular as Game of Thrones is delusional.

HBO RICK and MOrty

If HBO wants to be a real player in the streaming world and compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Disney it needs to create content and or buy content. Rick and Morty on HBO would be insane and would be a social media explosion. It would take the show from ‘must-see’ to event status. If Rick and Morty pushed the ratings envelop on HBO it would become must-watch for every kid in high school. Parents would protest the show, and the hype-train would be full speed ahead as long as Harmon and Roiland could keep the writing up to par and maintain the critical acclaim. If the Duplass Brothers can bring Animals to HBO, Harmon and Roiland should no problem with Rick and Morty. Casey Bloys, the President of Programming at HBO needs to understand that Rick and Morty is what the network needs, not Vice Principals.

Rick and Morty could become a disruptive artistic force on HBO, and that’s why the premium cable network needs to do whatever it takes to pick up the show. On the other hand, this could be one elaborate April Fools joke by Cartoon Network, Harmon, and Roiland.
