Devil’s Due / K. Lynn Smith team-up

K. LYNN SMITH’S PLUME COMES TO DEVIL’S DUE
DD Brings Hit Web Comic to Comic Shops, Manages Licensing, Crowd Funding

CHICAGO, IL: Plume was a well received addition to the web comic community last year, rocketing to a readership of tens of thousands in a short time, and it’s now adding print and digital retail distribution through Devil’s Due Entertainment.

Plume is a Wild West adventure with a supernatural twist, centering around Vesper Grey, the defiant daughter of an eccentric archaeologist, and her ghostly (but handsome) guardian bound to her by a mystical necklace. www.PlumeComic.com

The parties are celebrating their announcement with a series of prints and a t-shirt available for sale at San Diego’s Comic-Con International this year, at booth 2229, including a “jam print” featuring Smith’s characters, drawn by her, among other characters from the Devil’s Due brands. While Smith is not able to attend the show, her fans can also get the prints now on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/LB7iUV

Smith will continue to produce the web comic, while Devil’s Due will manage her future crowd funding efforts (which she successfully used in the past to bring Plume to print), film and media licensing, and distribute print editions of the books in comic book stores throughout North America. Devil’s Due Entertainment will also manage digital retail distribution through various outlets on iTunes, Kindle, and various app platforms.

“I instantly fell in love with this comic when I first saw K.Lynn’s online campaign to bring it to print,” said Devil’s Due ringleader Josh Blaylock. “The art, story, and package she’s put together is clever, fun, and easy to understand why now nearly 100,000 people are reading this and I can’t wait to bring it to other media.”

“I have full faith in the partnership between Devil’s Due and Plume,” said Smith. “Josh and his team have such a wonderful vision for the comic book world, bringing together innovative and forward-thinking strategies. Plume, I know, is in good hands.”

Curicon – Collector’s Online Paradise

Curicon is a growing databse of collectibles online. Kind of like Wikipedia for collectibles with a dash of yellow pages, and a pinch of Facebook. The best and most vaulable feature that I’ve found here is the listing of nearly every comic/ collectible shop in Australia, US, Canada, United Kingdom and New Zealand. They also have an incredible schedule of events and cons in these countries. I suspect this would be really useful to the traveling artist alley guys and the obsessive compulsive collectors. Check it out: Curicon Here’s their press release:

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Curicon has made its stand as the new home of the

collector, geek and pop-culture fanatic.

The new social network for collectors of geek and pop culture announced the

official launch of its website which boasts a growing library containing over

120,000 items. Around this core library, the site provides features which are

desperately needed by online collectors. Simple collection management and a

social community platform connect collectors by their interests all around the

world. The library contains a wide variety of collectibles; almost 400 brands

across 2,000 categories including comic books, action figures, dolls, vinyl

figures, trading cards, miniatures and games consoles.

“We’re not the first to create a collectors website but we’re almost certainly

the best” said CEO and co-founder of Curicon Matt Byrne (27), “Curicon

is designed by collectors for collectors. We have developed an intelligent

technology, which helps collectors manage and build their collections and

access expert advice with an ease not previously possible. We aim to

create a unique user experience by building the largest interactive database

of collectibles on the web. We’re extremely proud of the finished product

because it has been shaped by feedback from collectors in over 35 countries

Mongrel #1 – Review

Issue: Mongrel: Son of a Bitch #1
Writer: Edward Dunphy
Artist: Andrew Mitchell Kudlka
Publisher: Velvet Leaf Publishing
Price: $4.99

“Mongrel: Son of a Bitch is a 3-part gritty urban horror comic mini-series created by writer Ed Dunphy and artist Andrew M. Kudelka. It’s about Eric, a vicious werewolf that’s Hell-bent on destroying an established supernatural wolfpack in Chicago, and Will, the tough-as-nails homicide detective who is trying to solve the gruesome string of murders on his turf. The 1st full-color issue debuted at DanCon 2012 and will see a second limited release at C2E2 in Chicago in April. After a planned April Kickstarter campaign, the book will be available for order online at www.VelvetLeafPublishing.com and in select comic shops. The second issue will be ready in early summer, followed by the finale in late summer. Those wishing updates should contact the creators at: VLPcomics@hotmail.com.”

Dying Breath: 4.5 out of 5
Someone call PETA there is a werewolf massacre taking place! From GORE-Geous artwork to a very engaging story Mongrel #1 has it all. The art by Kudelka is spot on from panel to panel. He draws an amazing looking werewolf and has a great grasp on the human form as well. Now personally I know that this book came out in black and white, and while I like it with the color, I do think it worked better in the B&W style, personal preference though. The story by Dunphy is gripping and action packed. For a first issue it does a great job of setting up for the series as well as grabbing my mind and making it want more. The dialogue is perfect and I really got a sense of being there, almost as if I was watching a movie. With more issues on the horizon I can not wait to see how this plays out. With the werewolf resurgence in full effect right now it is awesome to get Mongrel out there for the masses. This is a series not to be missed.
